Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a soft tissue technique that works on Fascia. It is a non-invasive, gentle and effective manual therapy. Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and safe guards muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and even organs. When fascia is restricted or 'glued' it can lead to issues such as pain, restricted movement and poor posture to name a few.
How does Bowen Therapy work?
Bowen therapy works by the therapist making a sequence of 'rolling' moves over specific area's which is generally fascia, muscles, tendons or ligaments. The Bowen move works by stimulating the nervous system and surrounding tissues/organs to relax and reset, promoting hydration of the tissues and encouraging the body's own healing mechanisms.
What can I expect in a treatment?
Initial treatment sessions usually take an hour as we discuss your history, concerns, goals for treatment and create a treatment plan. Bowen can be done through light clothing. During a treatment there are also times when I will pause treatment to allow your body time to adjust, these pauses are usually between 2-5 minutes long.
